The Mission of the Village of Columbus Municipal Court is to serve the public by providing a fair and impartial forum that ensures equal access to justice in accordance with the rule of law, protects rights and liberties of all persons, and resolves cases in a timely and efficient manner. Our goal is to assure a safe community for people and to work collaboratively with the community.
The Municipal Court has jurisdiction over all offenses and complaints under ordinances of the Municipality. For violations, the court can impose fines, imprisonment, or other sanctions or penalties in accordance with the local ordinance. The types of criminal actions that come under the jurisdiction of our Municipal Court are petty misdemeanors, traffic offenses, code enforcement violations, animal control violations, and violations of municipal ordinances that provide for criminal punishment. We have no jurisdiction over civil cases or jury trials.
